Zultys Media Gateway Portfolio

On September 21, 2009 Zultys announced the availability of their new Media Gateway (MG) series of products that provide a SIP to Analog gateway for Zultys MX30 and MX250 iPBXs. These devices allow the connection of an analog telephone device and/or the connection to an analog circuit. I’ll get to those different gateways and their configurations in a minute. First of all you need to understand what this means for your organization.

While you could always use Zultys’ existing expansion cards to plug your full featured Zultys MX250 and MX30 systems directly into analog telephone lines or analog devices (The MX250 already comes with 2 FXS ports that allow you to plug in analog devices), this solution will allow you to plug into remote devices or remote ports and route calls over your network.

Let’s say you had a campus environment with multiple buildings and had existing analog phones in those buildings. You could use a gateway in each building to connect your existing analog phones to your MX250 and take advantage of all of the features of the MXIE Unified Communications client.

Another scenario would be for a remote office. Plug in your gateway on the remote side, configure the network connection so that the MG can talk to the MX and you have VoIP telephone service up and running in your remote office for the cost of your internet service.

Now on to the Gateways; Zultys now offers two different series of the MG product that offer up to 7 configurations.

First, two devices with 4 or 8 ports that connect to FXS (Foreign Exchange Service), or analog phone ports

  • MG4/O: SIP Gateway with 4 circuits of exchange side interface
  • MG8/O: SIP Gateway with 8 circuits of exchange side interface

Two devices with 4 or 8 ports that connect to FXO devices (analog phones)

  • MG4/S: SIP Gateway with 4 circuits of subscriber side interface
  • MG8/S: SIP Gateway with 8 circuits of subscriber side interface

One device that provides 4 FXO, and 4 FXS ports:

  • MG8/SO: SIP Gateway with 4 circuits of subscriber side interface and 4 circuits of exchange side interface

And two high density devices that allow for the connection of up to 48 analog devices (FAX, telephone, etc):

  • MG24/S: High Density SIP Gateway with 24 circuits of subscriber side interface
  • MG48/S: High Density SIP Gateway with 48 circuits of subscriber side interface

Don’t let the S and O designation on the part numbers confuse you, the O simply means that you plug into an analog (POTS) port and the S means that it supplies dial tone and ring voltage to analog devices.

These devices offer Echo Cancellation, Voice Compression (G.711, G729A), Fax support, and advanced features like call forward, caller ID and more.
